New thought

Had a new thought: not only does New Zelda make me believe that an HD "Wii 2" is very close to release because of lack of screenshots (see previous post), but Metroid Other M looks really good. The screens I've seen, unlike shots from other games, does not have the blockiness that comes from 480p... It looks flawless, as good as, say, a recent Final Fantasy. comparing to screens from Conduit 2 above, there's no blockiness or pixellation. At all.
There will definitely be some sort of HD announcement from Nintendo this year. And since both Other M and New Zelda hit shelves later this year (August and November), it's giving pretty strong evidence towards an HD-capable Wii successor.
W(e/ii) can only hope...

Wii HD/ Wii 2: why it is coming E3 2010

For anyone who follows rumors regarding Nintendo, you probably know what this is about. Since 2008, we've been hearing rumors that a "Wii HD", as we might call it. And we've been receiving a ton of mixed answers from every Nintendo executive who's been asked. Reggie Fils-Aime, who we all suspect is full of s**t, has been telling us for several years that "there is no Wii HD." Sure, Reggie. Shigeru Miyamoto, the true Nintendo gaming guru (officially a head designer on stuff, idk), has been giving us a bit of a more ambiguous message:
“Technology is always evolving and Nintendo, just like other companies, is going to integrate those technologies into our new products as they develop.”
“Whether that be a Wii HD, Wii 2 or an entirely new console, I am not in a position to say at the moment. I think that in the next generation of hardware, the challenge is how unique and different a product Nintendo is able to make.”

In addition, Satoru Iwata, the real big cheese, has been saying similar things:

''I question whether [HD] would be enough to get people to buy new machines."

Now, assuming we all think Reggie is full of sh*t, let's focus on the other two.
Miyamoto-San, who is so friggen important that whenever he so much as opens his mouth everyone takes notice, has not been denying a new console. The only thing he has said is it would have to be more than just HD, similarly to Iwata-San. This is very good news, especially considering the recently filed patent for highly effective "holographic data storage", with Nintendo's name on it.
Along with this, there is a large list of potential reasons it will be announced at E3 this year:
1. With Microsoft's Natal and Sony's MotionDildo ("Move") coming out later this year, no matter how badly they'll fail, Nintendo needs to get more competitive, and the least of their competitive measures could be HD.
2. According to a pretty legit leak of information by who appears to be a Nintendo France employee, the new console will feature a Blu-Ray drive, improved controller (Wiimote with MotionPlus built in, anyone?), and HD output, among other improvements and new features. This seemed to have some merit because of the level of detail in the leak, and even better, it claimed a worldwide 2010 release, Apple-style, just a month after announcement (similarly to the many new forms of the DS...).
3. Anyone here who HASN'T heard of the new Zelda? Easily the most hyped game from Nintendo in a while, and it's far enough along in development that it's slated for a 2010 release- and yet not a single screenshot has been seen by the public. Coincidence, or is it in reality being developed... In HD? I mean, maybe if someone saw screens and it looked way too good to be a Wii game, it might cast Reggie's claims of no HD console into serious doubt (more so than they already are).
4. It might not have to reach a whole new audience or clientele- according to the aforementioned leak, there will be a trade-in program, allowing those who had old Wiis to cash them in for a discount, at least. As well, people who own 360s or PS3's (as we very well know, only play Portal and shooters), should have no problem seeing the potential of aiming controls, which could convert quite a great deal of them- more win-win for the Big N!
5. An HD offering from Nintendo is long overdue, and spending reports indicate that a heck of a lot of money over at Nintendo HQ has been going towards R&D- way more than just for the 3DS or MotionPlus.
6. As we full well know, Reggie Fils-Aime is full of sh*t. Right up til the day it happened, Reggie denied a drop in pricing for the Wii, which brings us to my next point:
7. With the price drop, indicative that the hardware is going to become less valuable, we should all be expecting a new console to take it's place as profit-maker.
8. Someone high up, I forget who (I think Iwata-San or Miyamoto-San) mentioned, offhand, that a new Pikmin offering would benefit from being in HD.
9. The Wii desperately needs decent third-party support, and HD would be a great way to make that happen. Imagine: "Resident Evil 5: Wii HD Edition", or "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Reflex HD"... Sounds good, doesn't it?
10. What, 9 reasons aren't good enough?
